While watching video’s on the Internet one day

I was looking for a pasta recipe that are different from the one I usually make. One video offered traditional Italian dishes. I was shocked and amazed. It was way different from how South Africans made the same dish. A few days later an authentic Italian pizza and pasta short course was offered at the prestige Fancourt hotel. I enrolled and was accepted.

The best journey of my life

It was one of the best decisions of my life. Chefs from Naples taught us how to make authentic pizza and pasta. They also told us how each country change the dishes to appeal to their respective taste. One example is pineapple on pizza and cheddar cheese in pasta dishes. There are no pineapple on authentic Italian pizzas – never. We are used to buying pizza bases when we want to make our own pizzas or buy ready made pizza from the store. The truth however is that freshly homemade pizzas are way better.

My journey continued

The Italian course was followed up with a French and Sushi course and once again I were amazed at how inauthentic the store versions are. I do however acknowledge that authentic cuisine are more expensive for the average person. Things like French bagettes and other French breads, Sushi and Chinese dumplings are indeed expensive.

The difference of high quality ingredients and teqnique contributes to the authentic cuisines of each countries. Doing short courses in authentic cuisine are fun to do. I will continue my food  journey through different countries. Enjoying authentic traditional food. Follow me on this inspiring journey.
