Healing through art

Yesterday we spoke about emotional pain. Today we explore ways to heal and there are many inexpensive ways to heal from emotional pain.

“There is something beautiful about all scars of whatever nature. A scar means the hurt is over, the wound is closed and healed, done with.” —Harry Crews

Writing

I can shake off everything as I write; my sorrows disappear, my courage is reborn.” –Anne Frank

Writing is therapy for body, mind and soul. When you write down the things that bother you, you heal from the inside out. Write for yourself, write whatever comes to your mind. Just write.

Painting

Painting is the passage from the chaos of the emotions to the order of the possible. – Balthus

Even if you cannot draw a stick man, you can still pick up a paint brush and make a few strokes. Painting is very therapeutical – whether it is on paper or painting your home or even just a piece of wood.

Walking

If I am walking with two other men, each of them will serve as my teacher. I will pick out the good points of the one and imitate them, and the bad points of the other and correct them in myself. – Confucius

Walking solo is one of the best things to connect with yourself. It stops your mind from racing and it helps you to cope.

Crafting

“The discipline of creation, be it to paint, compose, write, is an effort towards wholeness.” – ― Madeleine L’Engle

Crafting relaxes your mind. Crafting anything is an accomplishment and it does wonders for your self esteem. Find something you enjoy doing

Reading

There is no friend as loyal as a book.”― Ernest Hemingway

Whether you read fiction, selfhelp books, Christian books or history books it doesn’t matter as long as you read something that inspires and heal your broken heart.

Cooking

Cooking and baking is both physical and mental therapy. – Mary Berry

Call it cooking therapy or even art. Creating something delicious out of nothing. So much healing in a plate of home cooking.

Gardening

The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just on the body, but the soul. Alfred Austin

Gardening is worth doing to feel the healing within when the first green leaf appears. Just the most amazing feeling
