The wolves from Apartheid or rather their descendants are still living in South Africa. The victims of a shameful time in history.

- (in the Republic of South Africa) a rigid former policy of segregating and economically and politically oppressing the non-white population.
- Other – any system or practice that separates people according to color, ethnicity, caste, etc.
- The Apartheid Government ruled from 1948 to 1993. Many things were done in secret like the wolves.

Yes real live wolves. South Africa are not the natural habitat of wolves. They were brought here from different parts of the world for different reasons. Some were brought here and put in Zoos around the country. Others were brought here and put in wildlife conservation. Some people bred with them and sold their cubs.
During Apartheid in South Africa some government officials came up with an idea
They thought it would be a good idea to bring a couple of wolves from North America to South Africa. A so-called super crowd control dog by crossbreeding with German Shepherds. The experiment as well as the Apartheid Government failed miserably. The wolves too became victims of the Apartheid Government. Some of the crossbred wolves were killed while others became abused homeless animals. Volunteers decided to care for the displaced wolves and so wolf sanctuaries in South Africa were born.

This wolf sanctuary is situated in the woods between Knysna and Plettenberg bay. Tsitsikamma Wolf Sanctuary is a non-profit organization in the Eastern Cape of South Africa providing a safe haven for abused and abandoned wolves.
Situated in the Free state, this sanctuary caters to the needs of Wolves, Huskies and Hybrids.
South African Friends of Wolves (SAFOW)
This non-profit organization educates people about wolves and why they are not pets.
