The joy of Grandchildren

Wait until you have grandchildren then you will understand people told me when I was still struggling to raise my own children.

Helo Grandma

I became a Grandmother 6 years ago when my Grandson was born and again one year later after the birth of my Granddaughter. I am now officially a Grandmother of two children 6 and 5 years old. My life have never been the same. In a good way that is. When my daughter told me that she was pregnant, I went into a state of panic. I don’t know how to be a Grandma and I feel to young to be one, I thought by myself. I walked into a baby store to buy something for the upcoming baby shower and walked right out again. It took 3 false starts before I calmed down enough.

The joy of Grandchildren

By the time the little boy was born, I was looking forward to meet the newest and smallest human being. The day I held him in my arms for the first time, I looked down on his little face and relived the day I came home with my first baby. Only this time he was not my responsibility. I could play with him, give him plenty of hugs and kisses and give him back when he were crying. The best of all is that I didn’t have to get up at night to feed the bundle of joy. It was a strange but liberating feeling.

It’s a girl

A year later a girl joined the party of one and how different they are. She came into the world a tiny Princess doll with feminine cries and dressed in frilly pink. By now I was used to being a Grandparent. I was however scared that I couldn’t love another child as much as I loved my Grandson.

Love, love, love

My fears turned out to be unfounded. The two are so different from each other.

He is this very active boy who wants to build things and take things apart. You have to keep an eye on him as he tend to act out. I didn’t have a son so it is wonderful to see life through the eyes of a boy. She on the other hand is a girly girl who loves make-up, like to dress-up and have tea parties with Granny. He is a bit reserved while she talks without a pause.
