Old time country music rules

Old time country music rules. Don Williams, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash to name just a few. Oh those were the days.

Music I like

I have a wide variety of music that I listen to. Pop, Rock, R & B even some Opera. However my favorite is Country music. I love the stories that Country music tells. It is in a class of it’s own. I grew up listening to Don Williams (my first LP and 1st CD), Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. Every Saturday evening they played Country music on the Television.

Country music in South Africa

We used to have a big country music vibe in South Africa before the Internet. The Cowboy theme with accompanying country music were big during my growing up years. Many of our singers would dress up to match their American counter parts. Bobby Angel. Lance James. While they were doing country music justice with their cover songs, few wrote new original songs. There was however this one girl Cora Marie who had a hit with an Afrikaans Country song Gee vir my ‘n bietjie country. Good voice, good song, Nice beat. Sadly she died at age 41. We also had Charles Jacobie who sang country from the heart.

Modern country music

It is just not the same as old time country music. However I grew to love Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw to name just a few. Also Billy Ray Cyrus. While I am not a big fan of the new type of country music, I do respect other people who do like it.

Do you remember?

Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson. Together they were the Highwaymen. Spectacular performances as a group while each being successful in their own right. There are some of their live shows available on YouTube to watch. So good. I watch them over and over again.
