Dealing with nosy people
Dealing with nosy people
Nosy people tend to poke their nose in your business.
“There are always ears on the other side of the wall.” – Chinese Proverb
Nosy People or caring People?
I am a very positive person by nature and while I want to believe that there are more good in people than bad, my kindness and naivety have many times resulted in being betrayed by friends and even some family members.
Many times we think that when a friend or family member ask about your plans for the future or asking the one question after another about your new relationship, that they are genuine interested in your life and while that might indeed be the case, many times these people are nosy for a reason.
There are a few reasons why some people are nosy:
- First of all, some people likes to be in other people’s business. They strive on the drama and will offer advice so that they can be the savior, the Hero.
- Others are just interested in the lives of others with no ill intend.
- The last group are those people who will go out of their way to gather info from people for the reason that they can deliberately use it to do harm sometimes because they have a grudge against the person.
DSmetimes they just do harm because they get a kick out of it. They might not even know the person very well. These people are often very sneaky and will get info from you. These people choose their victim the same way a bully does.
Dealing with nosy people
Dealing with nosy people can be both easy and hard. Easy when it is people you do not know very well and hard when it is a friend or family member. The problem is that you will not know who have rather harmful ideas and who doesn’t, therefore it is better to be cautious.
The best way I found to deal with nosy people are therefore to limit the info you give out. When anyone becomes too close for comfort with their questions just brush it off by saying something like “oh my life is really boring so lets rather talk about the stormy weather outside.
Another way to sway them away from you is to just say: “I don’t know” and then change the subject. People will eventually loose interest in targeting you when they see that you are not a blabber mouth anymore.
It’s your right
You have the right to keep your info to yourself and you should guard it because once it is out there it is open season for anyone and everyone to use it against you and to their benefit.
