Back to the 1940’s

Back to the 1940’s. It is WW2 and families live an uncertain life. Men are doing duty in the army while women take care of the home and children while also helping with wartime effort. Most households were lacking one or both parents, food were rationed and the future were uncertain.

Fast forward to 2025

We are living a life of abundance, unlimited choices and opportunities. The 1940’s are not part of our lifestyle except for those who lives in countries currently at war. Yet even for them life is different than in the 1940’s. Technollogy like cellphones and the Internet brings news to their doorstep which wasn’t the case in the past

My Mum and Grandma lived through WW2

Their stories fascinated me. They would tell us about the great depression, the poverty and also the simple ways they found joy during difficult times. My Mum still remembers how they had to cover the windows before switching on the lights during bath time. One night she and her sister had a fight about a towel when the covers in front of the window fell of. My Grandpa stormed into the bathroom to put the covers back up before planes could spot their home. My Grandma told us how she would hunt for tortoises to feed the family.

Back to the 1940’s

Believe it or not but there are people on the Internet that live as if it is the 1940’s. Although they do use some modern things like cellphones, electricity etc. they prefer to live the more simple life of that long forgotten time. They embrace the simplicity – cooking at home, gardening and eating home grown food. They slow down life and enjoy a simple life without waste or abundance on a low income. Listen to the radio, playing cards, cooking, having tea with friends. They found the perfect way to slow down in the midst of busy cities and found much to be grateful for. Living the good life.
