Definition of change

There are plenty of definitions of change. Here are just two.

  • to exchange one thing for another thing, especially of a similar type
  • to make or become different

5 reasons to embrace change

Change is everywhere. We cannot outrun it. It’s best to learn how to embrace it so that we can win in life. My 5 reasons to embrace change in no particular order:

1. Conquer fear

“What would you do if you weren’t afraid?” ― Spencer Johnson, Who Moved My Cheese?

Fear can consume you if we do not learn how to conquer it. Fear can hold you back.

2. New opportunities

“The quicker you let go of old cheese, the sooner you find new cheese.” ― Spencer Johnson

It is amazing when you finally let go of fear. With change comes new opportunities and we cannot see it until we let go of fear.

3. Become flexible in life

“If you do not change, you can become extinct !” ― Spencer Johnson, Who Moved My Cheese?

When we let go of the fear of change we learn how to be flexible in life. Example: You had your week planned out well ahead to celebrate your birthday with friends. Then disaster struck, you fell and broke your leg and now you are in hospital. Instead of a lavish affair, you just switch gears, postponing your birthday celebrations. It is not the end of the world.

4. Learn from your mistakes

“See what you’re doing wrong, laugh at it, change and do better.” ― Spencer Johnson

All of us made mistakes in our lives. Some never learn from their mistakes while others take stock of those mistakes, then change their ways and do things differently.

5. Anticipate change

“Smell the cheese often so you know when it is getting old.”― Spencer Johnson

Change is inevitable however when we let go of fear we can anticipate change and act quickly to move in a new direction. Fearless

Who moved my cheese

“Life moves on and so should we” ― Spencer Johnson, Who Moved My Cheese?

This small book helped me to embrace change. The book is written by Spencer Johnson and is a best seller. According to him, he wrote the book as a helpful guide to business people conquer their fear of change. To me this book meant the world and it still does. Every time I fear something and I find myself in a panic, I pick up the book. Embrace change, don’t fear it.
